*Igala APC Members Decry Marginalization, Demand Greater Inclusion in Kogi State*

Igala members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State have expressed concern that they are not fully benefiting from their participation in the party as they ought to be.

The resolution was reached after a meeting of Igala APC stakeholders held in Idah, the headquarters of Kogi East Senatorial District.

Many Igala APC members believe they are being marginalized and excluded from meaningful participation in the party's decision-making structures, leadership processes and opportunities.

According to the Convener of the APC Justice Forum, the majority of Igala members of the party are aggrieved because of open neglect and abandonment by party leaders in the state.

The Forum lamented that the current structure in the state is deeply entrenched in nepotism, where only a selected few Igalas are favoured.

The party in the state is perceived by Igala stakeholders as being influenced by entrenched interest groups whose actions and decisions have limited the participation of grassroots members from Igala-speaking communities.

They maintained that this situation has left many loyal party members feeling abandoned, neglected and politically sidelined despite their contributions to the growth and success of the APC.

The members stressed that the APC in Kogi East is only favouring decampees from the PDP while those who laboured for the party's success are suppressed and neglected completely.

They therefore called for urgent reforms that would promote inclusiveness, fairness, transparency and equitable representation across the various critical stakeholders who worked tirelessly for the victory of the party in the state.

They warned that if the concerns are not addressed promptly, the situation could negatively affect the party's performance in the 2027 general elections in the state. According to them, party members who work at the grassroots must be given a sense of belonging and allowed to contribute meaningfully to the formulation of policies and implementation of party programmes.

Chief Akwu Umar Goodman, Chairman of the Forum and one of the founding fathers of APC in Kogi State, said the vision behind the formation of the party must be upheld. According to him, "Justice to the People" remains the core mission, and the leadership of the party must make concerted efforts to ensure that the mission of the party is not truncated by any person or group interest.

The former Kogi State ACN Secretary that gave birth to APC, Chief Akwu Umar Goodman, is urging party leaders at the national level to act before it is too late.

He appealed to the state and national leadership of the party to open genuine channels of communication with aggrieved members and ensure that the principles of justice, equity and internal democracy guide the affairs of the party as envisioned prior to formation.

Chief Akwu emphasized that the Igala people remain committed to the APC and are prepared to continue supporting the party, provided that their loyalty and contributions are recognized. He called on party leaders to avoid practices that could deepen division and weaken the party's support base ahead of the 2027 elections.

He also used the opportunity to commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for awarding the long-awaited Ibaji Road project, which is expected to connect the eastern part of Nigeria through Otuocha in Anambra State. Chief Akwu described the project as a significant intervention that would promote economic integration, improve transportation and strengthen commercial activities across the region.

According to him, Ibaji Local Government Area, located in Kogi East Senatorial District, is widely regarded as a food basket of Central Nigeria. He noted that the completion of the road would not only improve the movement of agricultural produce and food supplies but also ease transportation and enhance connectivity between communities and states.

Chief Akwu urged the Federal Government to ensure the timely completion of the project, stressing that the road would create new opportunities for farmers, traders, transporters and other residents. He expressed confidence that the project would contribute significantly to the economic development of Kogi State and the wider region.

The APC stakeholders appealed to party leaders to treat the concerns of Igala members as a matter of urgency and to take concrete steps to restore confidence, strengthen unity and ensure that every member has a fair opportunity to participate in the affairs of the party.
