Kogi Unveils Maiden Gov Ododo All Campus Games, 13 Institutions to Battle for Honours

The Kogi State Government has announced preparations for the maiden edition of the Governor Ododo All Campus Games 2026.

The Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Aridajo Monday Anyebe, made this known on Friday, 24th October, 2026, while briefing journalists in Lokoja.

According to the Commissioner, the historic sporting event will bring together student-athletes from 13 tertiary institutions across the state to showcase their talents, skills and competitive spirit in a celebration of unity and healthy competition.

The participating institutions are Kogi State University, Kabba; Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja; Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba; Nigeria-Korea Friendship Institute (KOICA), Lokoja; Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa; Kogi State College of Education (Technical), Mopa; Federal College of Education, Okene; College of Nursing Sciences, Obangede; Federal University Lokoja; Federal Polytechnic, Idah; Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara; College of Agriculture, Kabba; and College of Health Sciences, Idah.

Anyebe disclosed that the tournament will feature football, basketball and volleyball for both male and female categories, with the opening ceremony scheduled for Monday, 26th October, 2026, at the Federal University Lokoja Sports Complex by 11:00 a.m. The grand finale will hold on Saturday, 7th November, 2026.

He stressed that the Games is more than a competition, describing it as a platform for discovering hidden talents, nurturing future champions, promoting healthy rivalry and strengthening unity among youths in the state.

The Commissioner assured that all necessary security arrangements have been put in place to ensure safety of lives and property before, during and after the event, and called on students, sports lovers and the general public to come out en masse to support their teams.

He commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his unwavering support and commitment towards the successful hosting of the maiden edition, noting that the initiative is driven by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

In a remark, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hon. Momoh Steven Azeez, said the ministry has spent almost three months preparing for the Governor Ododo All Campus Games 2026 in terms of venue, mobilization and funding, and is fully ready in the area of security. He invited all media teams to the opening ceremony on Monday at the Federal University Lokoja, stressing that nothing can be achieved without the media to project the programme to the world.

He said the tournament, which will run for about two weeks with preliminary, semi-final and final stages, will help establish friendship among students and propagate the Governor's good policy on sports development.

Azeez commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his support to the ministry, noting that the Games is one of the major projects of the administration.

The Chairman of the Governor Ododo All Campus Games 2026, Comrade Joshua Achor, said the competition will feature attractive prizes for winners across various categories, including first, second and third positions in athletics events such as 100m, 200m, 400m and 4x100m relay. He noted that while the prize amounts will be disclosed in due course, the rewards will be very attractive for all winners.

Responding to why the Games is being staged in a campus environment, Achor explained that as an all-campus competition, it is designed to give students a feel of a sporting festival within their school environment. He added that although some athletics events will hold at the Confluence Stadium due to lack of standard facilities in some schools, the overall objective is to keep the Games within the student community.

The Director of Sports in the Ministry thanked the Commissioner for driving the initiative, noting that the Governor Ododo All Campus Games 2026 marks another first and maiden edition powered by the ministry.
