KERC Takes Stakeholders Engagement to Anyigba, Kogi East
The Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has held a stakeholders engagement and sensitization program in Anyigba, Kogi East Senatorial District.
KERC's Chairman/CEO, Engr Ibrahim S Abdwaaris, reiterated the commission's commitment to collaborate with stakeholders to address power supply issues in underserved areas.
Represented by Alhaji Isa Suleiman, General Manager, Market Competition and Rate, Engr Abdwaaris assured that efforts are underway to address epileptic power supply in Kogi East and other areas.
He highlighted KERC's efforts in enhancing quality and efficient power supply in Kogi through regulatory frameworks and enforcement actions.
Engr Abdwaaris emphasized that consumers should receive value for their electricity payments, and the commission opposes payment for darkness.
"The state government has established a special court and taskforce to combat electricity theft and other energy related offenses for improved energy security and to boost investor confidence.
To ensure availability of power at the underserved and unserved areas in the State, KERC has issued licenses to mini-grid developers and is processing more permits."
Kogi Electricity Distribution Limited (KEDL) acting Managing Director assured improvement in power supply soon, represented by Mr Emmanuel Ajibogun, Regulatory Officer.
Stakeholders lamented poor power supply, including Rt Hon Benjamin Ikani, former House of Representatives member, who said Anyigba people are industrious and want to create jobs, but lack of power hinders them.
Councillor Hon Alhassan Abubakar, representing Anyigba Ward, and retired Controller of Immigration Yahaya Yakubu also expressed concerns.
Attendees included the Ogohi-Onu Anyigba, Alhaji Shuaibu Okolo, represented by chiefs, and other community leaders.
The KERC delegation was led by Alhaji Isa Suleiman, alongside General Manager Strategy Yakubu Omaniyi, AGM Market Analysis Ismaila Iheizu, Health and Safety Standard Manager Ishiaku Obaitor, Legal Officer Barrister Emmanuel Amikptan, and Head of Customers Experience Unit Mrs Khadijat Murktar Mohammed.
