Igala Group Voices Concern Over Exclusion from Kogi State Oil Commission Leadership"*
The Ane-Igala Socio-Cultural Development Association has expressed disappointment and concern over a reported gazette or legislation by the Kogi State House of Assembly that may exclude the Igala people of Kogi East Senatorial District from occupying the position of Chairman of the Kogi State Oil Producing Areas Commission.
In a press statement, the association described the move as a "matter of concern" and emphasized the importance of inclusivity and representation in the management of oil resources in Kogi State. They stressed that it's essential for the host communities to have a stake in the management of their natural resources.
The statement signed by Chief Akwu Umar Goodman, National Coordinator, Dr. Fred Attah, Secretary General, and Chief Yakubu Ali, National Treasurer, called for a review of the legislation to ensure it promotes unity and equitable representation. They emphasized the need for dialogue and understanding to address the concerns of all stakeholders.
The group urged the Kogi State government to ensure that the rights of all communities are protected and that the management of oil resources is done in a fair and transparent manner. They expressed hope that the issue would be resolved amicably and in the best interest of all parties involved.
The Igala people have been seeking greater involvement in the management of oil resources in their region, and this latest development has sparked concerns about representation and inclusivity. The association's statement is a call for calm and constructive engagement to address the issue.
The Kogi State government has yet to respond to the allegations, but the Igala community is hopeful that the matter will be addressed in a way that promotes peace and understanding.
