*HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES ORDERS IGP, CDS TO ESTABLISH POLICE PATROL TEAM, OPERATION BASE ALONG ANYIGBA-ANKPA HIGHWAY TO CURB KIDNAPPING*
The House of Representatives has directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) to constitute a special armed police team and establish a Forward Operation Base (FOB) along the Ojapata-Ankpa road and Itobe-Anyigba road.
This directive follows a motion by Deputy House Leader, Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Halims, representing Ankpa and Olamaboro Federal Constituency of Kogi State. The motion highlighted the alarming rate of kidnapping along the Itobe-Anyigba-Ankpa Federal Highway, which has negatively impacted economic activities and social engagements in the Kogi East Senatorial district.
The lawmaker noted that despite the Kogi State Government's efforts to secure lives and properties, the kidnappers continue to operate with impunity, demanding huge ransoms from their victims. He emphasized the need for federal collaboration to address the security challenges in the region.
The House of Representatives' resolution aims to stem the tide of kidnapping and restore security along the highway, which is crucial for vehicular and human traffic within the region and other parts of the country.
