*Kogi State Set for Major Boost in Electricity Sector*

Kogi State is poised for a significant boost in its electricity sector, thanks to the efforts of the Chief Servant of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.

According to Engr Ibrahim Abdwaaris, Chairman/CEO of Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC), the Chief Servant is committed to ensuring reliable, sustainable, and efficient power supply in the state to drive the economic growth and development.

The KERC Boss emphasized its responsibility to protect the interest of all the players in the state electricity market for improved energy efficiency.

While emphasizing the need for prompt payment of electricity bills by end users as one of the statutory obligations, the KERC Boss stated that the commission will not tolerate any form of exploitation of consumers by operators in the sector.

Engr. Abdwaaris explained that  the KERC will take over the intrastate electricity market in Kogi state on March 12, 2025. This transition is in line with the Electricity Act(EA) 2023 as amended.

Under the new arrangement, all electricity market operators in Kogi State will be issued appropriate licenses, permit or other relevant documents to operate legally in the state.

The Light Up Movement, a group advocating for better electricity services, has expressed support for the KERC's efforts.

The group's chairman, Comrade Illiyasu Zakari, praised the engagement of experienced professionals to run the affairs of the newly established commission.

Comrade Ali Atabor
Head, Public Relations, KERC.
