Kogites Urged to Embrace Unity Amidst Yahaya Bello's Trial



The recent development surrounding the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Adoza Bello, has drawn national and international attention. Following his voluntary submission to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), he now faces charges at the FCT High Court and Federal High Court on December 10th and 13th, 2024. Currently in EFCC custody, the trial has sparked mixed emotions among Kogites and other Nigerians.

On one side, there are jubilations from certain quarters, viewing this as a step towards accountability. On the other, there is an outpouring of prayers and unwavering support for the former governor, reflecting the respect and loyalty many still hold for him.

In light of these reactions, it is crucial that citizens of Kogi State refrain from allowing this situation to sow seeds of enmity or division. The EFCC and the judiciary have a constitutional responsibility to handle the matter transparently and justly. As Kogites, our role is to uphold peace, exhibit restraint, and avoid inflammatory rhetoric or actions that could further polarize our society.

It is important to emphasize that the ongoing legal proceedings will not alter the outcome of the November 11th, 2023, gubernatorial election or the subsequent rulings by the tribunal, appellate courts, or Supreme Court. The election process has been concluded, and the mandate to govern now rests with Governor Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.

Our collective focus should be on supporting the current administration in its efforts to drive development, improve infrastructure, and uplift the lives of the people of Kogi State. Distractions caused by emotional debates or unnecessary confrontations only serve to derail the progress we seek.

As citizens, let us discuss this issue thoughtfully and respectfully, avoiding insults, name-calling, or personal attacks. Instead, we should emphasize issues, facts, and solutions that can contribute to the betterment of our state. Kogi State is known for its diversity and strength in unity—let this moment reflect those values.

I urge every Kogite to stand firm as one people, committed to the collective goal of peace, progress, and prosperity. Let us respect the rule of law, trust the judicial process, and focus on building a better Kogi State under the leadership of Governor Ododo.

Together, we can transform this moment of challenge into an opportunity for unity, growth, and shared success. Let Kogi State remain a shining example of resilience and democratic maturity.
