Igalamela/Odolu LG Council Tackles Market Congestion, Commences Evacuation of Refuse in Ajaka Market
Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Council has commenced the evacuation of refuse from the Ajaka main market to facilitate the ongoing decongestion campaign of one of the major markets in Kogi East.
Acknowledging that certain areas of the market have been used as dump sites for years, the Executive Chairman of the Council Hon.(Barr.) Cosmas Atabor is out for a total cleanup of the market, cautioning traders to refrain from such practices moving forward.
The cleanup exercise will not only support the administration’s decongestion effort but will also yield additional benefits, including enhanced commercial activities and improved economic impact.
Hon. (Barr.) Atabor stressed that the initiative would create a healthier and safer environment, ensuring goods and consumables are protected from exposure to harmful germs and bacteria.
Hon. Shaibu Musa Ejigebe, the Senior Special Assistant to the Chairman on Market Decongestion, who is overseeing the evacuation, expressed displeasure with the manner a large portion of the market has been taken over by waste dumps.
Hon Ejigebe assured that the exercise will soon be concluded to create more space in the market in order to for more stalls available for traders to occuy.
He further hinted that all traders who are using unauthorized spaces around the market and along the major road are expected to vacate such places.
Hon. Shaibu commended the Council Chairman's proactive leadership, affirming that the exercise will boost the economic life and well-being of the people.
