Kogi State Government Lauded for Completing Zone 8-Kabba Junction Road, Urged to Finish Ganaja Road and Implement Mass Transit System
The rapid growth of Lokoja metropolis has led to the emergence of settlements on its outskirts, including Otokiti-Shettima-Zango, Crusher, and Ganaja areas. Residents of these areas commute to Lokoja for work, drawn by lower housing costs. However, the removal of fuel subsidies on May 29, 2023, exposed weaknesses in infrastructure and public services, particularly transportation.
According to Hamza Aliyu, Executive Director of the Initiative for Grassroot Advancement in Nigeria (INGRA), the Kogi State Government has made significant progress in addressing the Zone 8-Kabba junction road, which was previously attempted by past administrations without success ¹. Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello's administration began construction in 2023, and despite concerns about the project's completion when his tenure ended on January 29, 2024, Alhaji Usman Ododo's administration surprisingly completed the project within 10 months.
The completion of the road has brought relief and renewed trust among residents, and INGRA commends Governor Ododo for this achievement, citing its economic and health benefits ¹. INGRA urges the governor to:
- *Complete the Ganaja Road*: Finish the project to fully benefit Lokoja citizens.
- *Establish a Mass Transit System*: Address transportation challenges, reduce costs, and alleviate hardship caused by fuel subsidy removal.
By addressing these issues, the Kogi State Government can further demonstrate its commitment to improving the lives of its citizens.
