_NMA Leadership Crisis: Kogi Govt Urged to Recognize Dr. Aazee Jimoh_
The Kogi State Government has been urged to recognize Dr. Aazee Jimoh as the authentic Chairman of the state chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA). National Vice President, Dr. Benjamin Jebutu, made the appeal, citing infractions hindering the association's smooth running.
Dr. Jebutu emphasized that the national body only recognizes Dr. Jimoh's leadership and has issued a letter to the governor, police commissioner, and chief medical director. He expressed disappointment over divisions within the association and assured that the national body, led by Professor Bala Audu, recognizes Dr. Jimoh's leadership and Dr. Baoku Olusola as an ex-officio member.
Dr. Baoku Olusola, immediate past chairman, attributed the internal crises to stereotype interests and divergent opinions. He remains committed to advocating for good welfare packages and quality healthcare delivery.
However, Dr. Abubarkar Hassan, chairman of a rival group, claimed he was duly elected on August 10, 2024, according to the association's bye-laws. The issue has been raised at the national executive council meeting, with hopes for an amicable solution by December 2024.
The NMA national body has intervened, affirming Dr. Jimoh's leadership and Dr. Olusola's role. The association seeks to resolve the crisis and maintain unity among its members.
The Kogi State Government's recognition of Dr. Jimoh's leadership is crucial in resolving the crisis and ensuring the association's smooth operation.
