NATIONAL YOUTH GAME WAS DESIGNED TO DISCOVER TALENTS: MINISTER OF SPORTS DEVELOPMENT.

  Contingents from the 36 states of the Federation and the FCT, at the 8th National Youth Games defiled the heavy rains to participate in  the opening ceremony match past at the Stephen Keshi International stadium  Asaba.
  Declaring the games open,  President Bola Tinubu in a message noted that the sporting event was conceived to engender peace and unity among the youths of the country.
The president who was represented by the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, said the programme was designed to hunt, discover and nurture  young  talents for sporting activities.
  He said the country must continue with the game as it helps the nation to unite the people and attract Young men and women into sports. 
  According to him, the present administration  is poised at repositioning the sports sector for national unity and economic development and called on all stakeholders to invest in grassroots sports development in the overall interest of youth engagement and advancement.
In a remark, the Governor of Delta state, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, said it was the joy of the state to have been given to the opportunity to host the games last year and this year  adding that the state was always ready to promote sporting activities in the country.
  He said everything  necessary has been put in place to ensure a seamless and successful sporting activity.
  The governor disclosed that with the over six thousand athletes participating in the games new talents would be discovered.
  He explained that the games should be used as a tool for achieving national unity and peaceful coexistence.
  While urging the contingents to be at their best and win medals ,he called on the officials to ensure fair play during the games.
 Governor Oborevwori appealed to the Federal Ministry of Sports Development, to revert back to the original age classification of under seventeen years instead of fifteen years  for the National Youth Games, so that the participants can graduate seamlessly to the senior team
  In an interview, the Kogi state Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Monday Anyebe, represented by the Director Sports in the ministry Mr David Ogazuma said the state contingents were adequately trained and ready to contest against  contingents from other states.
 Hon Monday A Anyebe commended the federal Ministry of Sports Development and the Delta state Ministry for Sports puting up a colourful opening ceremony.
