Kogi Assembly congratulates Gov. Ododo over Supreme Court victory...Pledges support for Executive to drive devt, progress

KOGI State House of Assembly has resumed sitting, with the Speaker Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf expressing excitement and gratitude to God for the Supreme Court's affirmation of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo's victory in the November 11th governorship election. 

Speaker Yusuf stated this in his address of welcome to members at resumption of plenary after a long recess, on Tuesday in Lokoja.

Yusuf commended the members for their show of solidarity and assured them of the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC)'s commitment to working cordially and in unison for the betterment of the state.

He said, "The apex court’s pronouncement has a great significance in all of our lives; not only as members of this hallowed chambers, but as a state in general. We therefore return all the glory to the Almighty God. 

"As Legislators, we have all rejoiced across party lines in a show of solidarity with the ruling party. Therefore, on behalf of members of the ruling party the APC, we thank the opposition members for their show of solidarity.

"We assure you of our commitment to working cordially and in unison for the betterment of our various constituencies", he said. 

He congratulated Governor Ododo for his tenacity and bravery, assuring the people of Kogi State of better days ahead in all areas of governance and administration.

Speaker Yusuf also pledged the Assembly's support for the Executive, urging the opposition to come closer and collaborate with the current administration for the development of the state.

He charged his colleagues ) Legislators) to redouble their commitment to lawmaking and oversight functions, ensuring that resources meet the expectations of the government for the people.

"We must renew our determination towards a more aggressive oversight function to ensure the resources released and responsibilities given to Ministries, Departments and Agencies meet the expectations of government", he added. 

The Speaker appreciated the staff of the Assembly and Members of the Media for their dedication and accurate reportage of legislative functions.

With the resumption of sitting, the Kogi State House of Assembly is set to work collaboratively with the Executive, to drive development and progress in the state. (Ends)
