Kano Governor Urged to Focus on Governance, Not Predecessor

The Progressives Yoruba Youths Congress (PYYC) has called on Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Yusuf to prioritize governance over what they describe as a "witch-hunt" against his predecessor, Alhaji Umar Abdullahi Ganduje.

In a press statement issued yesterday, PYYC's Director of Media and Public Communications, Elder Babajide Solomon, criticized Governor Yusuf's alleged attempts to discredit Ganduje, praising the former governor's contributions to both Kano State and Nigeria at large.

"As of today, there's no politician in our dear country that has provided political leadership above all levels of primordial sentiments while in office like Alhaji Umar Ganduje," the statement read.

The youth organization urged Governor Yusuf to shift his focus from what they termed "vendetta policies" to delivering the dividends of democracy to Kano citizens. They emphasized that with elections and related litigations concluded, it is time for the new administration to concentrate on governance.

PYYC announced plans to honor Ganduje as an "Outstanding Nationalist of the Federal Republic of Nigeria," citing his treatment of non-indigenes, particularly Yorubas, during his tenure as governor. The group also commended Ganduje's current role as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing him as a "detribalized Nigerian."

Addressing corruption allegations against Ganduje, the youth congress advised Governor Yusuf to direct any petitions to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which they identified as the only recognized anti-corruption agency in Nigeria.

The PYYC's statement comes amidst growing tensions between the current and former administrations in Kano State, highlighting the political dynamics at play in one of Nigeria's most populous states.
