The call was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Union, Comrade Emejeh Ogwu Sunday and Secretary, Comrade Muhammed Ada Sule in Lokoja.
The Union in the statement said it has become imperative to repeat the call in view of the recent attack on Government Secondary School in Iluke-Bunu by gunmen which resulted to the death of three people.
The statement noted that teachers are paying supreme prize despite other deprivations while on the line of duty.
It emphasized that such tragedy is traumatizing and unacceptable, appealing to government and security agencies to rise up to the challenges of protecting students and staff in schools across the state.
The statement commended the efforts of security agencies who rose to the occasion and prevented abduction of students and staff on duty and called for the apprehension of those behind the tragic incidence.
The Union in the statement also appealed to the State Government to review security protocols for schools in rural and vulnerable areas through the deployment of security personnel and the fortification of school perimeters.
It also called for vigilance in the face of worsening security situations in the country and provision of actionable intelligent information to assist security personnel in taking necessary measures to prevent crime.
It commiserated with the State Ministry of Education, Kogi State Senior Secondary Education Board (KGSSEB) and the families of those who lost their lives in the attack and assured all staff and students of the Union's readiness to partner with the Government and security agencies for a safer academic environment.
