A University Don, Professor Stephen Ikani Ocheni, has called on employers in Nigeria's tertiary institutions to provide special IT training for academic staff to effectively integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into existing systems.

A University Don, Professor Stephen Ikani Ocheni, has called on employers in Nigeria's tertiary institutions to provide special IT training for academic staff to effectively integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into existing systems. 

He emphasized the need for caution, as some students use AI tools to generate answers, threatening creativity and commitment in learning.

Delivering a keynote address at the third International Conference of the Faculty of Social Science, Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, Professor Ocheni pointed out the opportunities and challenges of AI in education. 

He advised against compromising the human element in learning and teaching, citing ethical concerns around autonomy, accountability, and the role of educators.

The former Minister emphasized the need to balance AI use with traditional educational strategies to foster a well-rounded learning experience.

Professor Stephen Ocheni  concluded by charging stakeholders to address the issues and challenges of AI in education to secure a brighter future for learners across Africa and Nigeria.

The Faculty honored Professor Ocheni with the Fellow of the Association of Contemporary African Social Scientists (FACASS) award in appreciation of his contributions to society.
